The Cape Town and Western Cape Convention Bureau has once again received the international hallmark of excellence, following the annual BestCities external audit. An external audit of service standards is a requirement for certification as a member of the BestCities Global Alliance.
Martin Ledger, an auditor from Lloyd’s Registered Quality Assurance (LRQA), said in his assessment that: “The Cape Town Bureau meets the requirements of the BestCities Alliance. The 2011 theme topics were found compliant to the Quality Management System. It was evident from the sample of the bid files, that the system is meeting and surpassing the client’s requirements.”
The Cape Town and Western Cape Convention Bureau is a certified member of the BestCities Global Alliance of Convention Bureaux, together with Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Dubai, Singapore, Melbourne, San Juan (Puerto Rico) and Vancouver. Certification requires strict adherence to the world’s best convention bureau practices.

In the current financial year a total of 22 bids for conventions have already been submitted, with the International Council of Reflexology 2013 conference and the International Symposium on the Biosafety of Genetically Modified Organisms 2014 conference being awarded to the destination.
Since April this year, Cape Town and the Western Cape has secured 10 association conferences, which are estimated to contribute R37-million to the local economy and attract 7 650 delegates. A further five bids are being prepared.
