The 2011 Joburg Shopping Festival is set to take place at eight participating centres from 17 to 25 September in Rosebank, the CBD and Woodmead. Festival partners include SAA, freight service UBag, six Johannesburg hotels (Don Suite Hotels, InterContinental, The Peech Hotel, City Lodge Group, Mapungubwe Hotel and The Reef Hotel) and Welcome Tourism Services, who have partnered to create a variety of packages for visitors and shoppers.
These special packages can be viewed on the Welcome Tourism Services website (www.welcome.co.za) and Johannesburg Tourism Company’s website (www.joburgtourism.com).
Participating shopping centres include The Zone @ Rosebank, The Mall of Rosebank, The Firs, Bryanston Organic & Natural Market, Joburg Market, Carlton Shopping Centre and the Woodmead Retail Park. They have recruited over 300 retailers which will be offering shopping packages across the various centres.
“We’re delighted that the City of Johannesburg is continuing to champion a spring shopping festival throughout Joburg and I trust this initiative will grow into a significant Joburg calendar event,” says Lindiwe Kwele, CEO of Johannesburg Tourism Company.
The Joburg Shopping Festival is a tourism and retail event that takes place annually in September. It was initiated by the city’s Department of Economic Development, in partnership with the travel, retail, logistics and media. The aim of the festival is to highlight the retail infrastructure and services available in Johannesburg, to attract more visitors from Africa and neighbouring provinces into the city for shopping, entertainment, sightseeing, golfing, spa and medical treatments.
