The 24th September has been declared National Braai Day, and it also sees the nation celebrate Heritage Day, which is a public holiday.
Catering group Compass Game Park Services (CGPS) has made the most of its location, the Kruger National Park, to launch a series of innovative boma and bush braai evenings for visitors. This is a new experience at the national park, and one generally associated with private game reserves.
With nature as the backdrop, the resident Compass chefs will prepare a South African braai feast at the following camps: Berg en Dal; Pretoriuskop; Lower Sabie; Skukuza; Satara; and Olifants.
Applicable for groups of 15 or more, the promotion occurs from 18h00 every Friday and Saturday night until further notice. In addition, Skukuza Camp has a day-time offering at its Wooden Bananas from Thursdays to Sundays and public holidays.
“Due to popularity, we decided to run the promotion in line with the month that South Africans celebrate National Braai Day. As a country, South Africans love the outdoors and braai-ing, which is something we can proudly offer with a Kruger National Park backdrop,” says Wesam Whebe, GM of Compass Game Park Services.
For the more adventurous, CGPS also organises bush braais which start at dusk with a game drive to the braai site. Five-star food and service is provided under the night sky in the middle of the bush.
A sample menu includes: salad greens, chicken, traditional boerewors, pap tart with Sheba sauce, and freshly baked bread rolls.
The cost of the boma braai promotion is currently R79.90 per adult, R39.95 per child under 12 years old and free to children under two years old.
Entertainment can also be provided, during which pupils from the local school put on a dance performance and funds go towards community upliftment.
CGPS is a division of Compass Group Southern Africa. It manages all of the restaurant and catering requirements at the Kruger National Park.
